The resort of Golden Sands is the largest one on the northern Black Sea coast. It is situated 18 km north-east of Varna and about 490 km east of Sofia. Kranevo village is located about 5 km to the north, Riviera and St. St. Constantine and Helena resorts are bordering Golden Sands to the south.

The resort is abundant in lush vegetation and with the numerous bushes and trees resembles a real park. The mineral water running out of several big pipes onto the beach, as well as the marvellous deciduous wood bordering the Frangen Plateau turn Golden Sands into one of the pearls of the Bulgarian coast.

The building of the resort commenced back around 1950's and at the past few years most of the old hotels were entirely refurbished and new ones have been built to meet the high demand for holiday homes from buyers all over Europe.

The resort’s beach strip is about 3,5 km long and up to 100 m wide. The resort offers wonderful conditions for recreation, entertainment, sports and spa treatment. It is a paradise for children and restful holiday for parents. It has been awarded the prestigious Blue Flag international ecology prize several times.

Close to the centre of the resort you will find Aquapolis Waterpark, while the centrally located PADI Deep Blue Diving Centre offers a full range of courses for children and adults.

The constant temperature of about 27°C and the microclimate of Golden Sands throughout the season make it a wonderful place for having a rest and fun.

There are a lot restaurants, variety of snack bars, fast food, grill- and toast-bars and various other ways to service the tourists.

The transport between Golden Sands and Varna is well organised. Apart from the bus lines connecting the resort to the city and to the airport as well, there are a lot of minibuses and private taxis.

In the immediate proximity of the resort is the Aladzha rock monastery. It hosted Hesychasts in 12th century and has an interesting history. Nowadays, only a small part of the frescoes is preserved but the experience of being in a monastery nestled on a high steep rock is unforgettable. The monastery is declared a cultural sight and houses a small museum.
