Sunny Beach
Sunny Beach is the biggest and most popular Bulgarian summer resort, with the longest and widest beach strip. It is situated 35 km north from the city of Burgas and around 430 km east of the capital Sofia.
The construction of Sunny Beach began in 1958. It was proposed to be a meduim-sized, quiet family resort, where the working class during communist regime will go for a deserved summer holiday.
Nowadays, the resort has changed a lot and practically occupies the whole territory between the village of St. Vlas to the north and the ancient town of Nessebar to the south.
Sunny Beach benefits from fresh breeze and approx. 1,700 hours of sunshine from early May to late September. Thanks to this lovely combination the heat during the day is easy to bear and the nights are cool and pleasant. The average daily temperature during the summer is 27°C
With the expansion of the resort in the past 10 years, Sunny Beach became a modern holiday destination with more than 200 private hotels and numerous places to enjoy your summer holiday: restaurants, bars, taverns, night clubs, casino, discos, cafes, shopping centre, arts and crafts markets.
The most famous hotels that were built at the yearly are Kuban (considered to be the centre point of the resort) and Bourgas Hotel, located in the south part. Amongst the newly built hotels, the most famous are Victoria, Majestic and Helena (north part of the resort), Barcelo Roayl Beach and Dune in the central part, Tiara Beach and Nobel on the south part of Sunny Beach.
Apart from the hotel restaurants, there are plenty of other restaurants with different types of cuisine and entertainment located all over the resort, as well as numerous refreshment stalls and shops along the central alleys. The most famous restaurants and bars are Janny, Condor, Chanove (Restaurants), Mania, Multiplace, Lazur, Viking, Orange (Bars and Discos), especially famous is the beach zone of Cacao Beach.
Visitors can enjoy water skis and parachutes, surfing, hang-gliding and banana, as well as sailing, yacht and sail boats, paddle boats, cutters, scooters, rowboats and many more.
The resort also has tennis courts, beach volleyball grounds, mini-golf, skittle alleys, bowling, fitness halls, a stable with horses and riding instructors and many other attractions for the tourists.
For the children there is a wide variety of fun and games, children pools, slides, carting and many more.
The cultural programme of the resort includes the popular Golden Orpheus International Festival for Bulgarian Pop Songs, folklore and symphony concerts, exhibitions, Miss Sunny Beach contest, beach volleyball competition etc.
Short excursions and off-road adventures are organised on a regular basis.
There is a local transport in the resort - mini-trains which travel from the north end of the resort to the south. There is a regular bus transport from Nessebar and Bourgas to Sunny beach, plenty of private buses and taxis, water transport to Nessebar and Bourgas.
Bourgas airport is about 30 km away from the resort and usually can be reached within half an hour drive.
